Who is Energy Safety?

Energy Safety is part of WorkSafe New Zealand. We are responsible for monitoring, encouraging and enforcing compliance with the laws related to electricity and gas supply.

Previously we were part of the Ministry of Economic Development and later Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

References to those organisations on this website should now be read as WorkSafe New Zealand.

Energy Safety welcomes all forms of feedback including complaints, compliments and suggestions and will use information gathered from them to improve our services in the future.

Energy Safety will continue to develop and implement a compliance and enforcement strategy based on known risk areas and current statistical data to support the Regulations with a view to influencing safe outcomes from the distribution and use of electricity and gas.

We will conduct audits of electricity and gas suppliers, networks, distribution systems, installations, and appliances, and actively target non-compliance to facilitate public safety outcomes.
