Operational Safety

Gas appliances need to be operated and maintained in accordance with their operating instructions, where applicable, to remain safe in normal use, and should only be used for the purpose for which they were designed and tested.

There are specific requirements for the repair, modification or adjustment of gas appliances and fittings. This work has to be done safely, and should only be done by a person who is competent to do so.


Hire of gas appliances or installations that include gas appliances

Everyone who hires or leases out gas appliances and fittings, including property or vehicles that includes gas appliances, has a responsibility to:

  • Ensure the gas appliances and fittings are safe,
  • Ensure they are complete with any safety accessory, and
  • Supply suitable and practical instructions for the safe use of the appliance, fittings or installation.
