In addition to obligations in regards to the construction of an installation, the regulations also place some responsibilities and obligations for the on-going use of the installation.
A person who supplies a gas appliance, installation or fitting must not allow any other person to use the gas appliance, installation or fitting if any part is unsafe.
Workplace safety is covered by the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. The Regulations place obligations on those responsible for connecting a gas installation to a gas supply.
Persons who hire out or lease out gas appliances, fittings or installations have specific safety obligations under the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010. This includes the hirers of rental vehicles and there is a specific provision for landlords of residential premises.
Operators of CNG stations have specific obligations in regard to the safety training of forecourt staff, the ongoing maintenance of CNG equipment and the keeping of records to document compliance with these obligations. There are also obligations in regard to the accuracy of the metering of the CNG dispensers and record keeping.
