Codes of Practice under review - now closed

Energy Safety consulted on a range of Codes of Practice. Consultation is now closed. Feedback is now being reviewed.

Review of Electrical and Gas Codes of Practice

Worksafe New Zealand (Energy Safety) has initiated a business improvement programme to review industry specific cited and non-cited Codes of Practice (“Codes”) to ensure that the content is still valid, and to determine subject to public consultation, whether they should be revoked, revised or reconfirmed. Codes and specifications in high demand and those referenced or cited in legislation should be revised frequently to ensure they stay up to date.

The programme of work aims to ensure Codes of Practice meet the needs of the people who rely on them and are relevant to the New Zealand environment.

Historical Codes of Practice – proposed to be formally revoked

Codes of Practice in excess of 20 years old and no longer cited in the current Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 or Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010 are being proposed for withdrawal, unless Worksafe (Energy Safety) receives written advice to the contrary supported by technical evidence. This approach recognises that some of these Codes may well still be used within the industry and by other agencies and Energy Safety would like to hear from you if this is the case.

Current Codes of Practice – proposed for revision or reconfirmation

Feedback is being sought on whether the Codes of Practice cited in the current Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 or Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010 are still accurate, useful and relevant, and whether these Codes should be revised or reconfirmed.

Definitions

Revised status as defined for this programme is a Code that is current, but the content and/or structure needs to be updated. The public consultation phase is an opportunity for Energy Safety to seek the views of the general public.

Reconfirmed status is appropriate when the Codes is current and is to be renewed (“reconfirmed”) without any changes to the content.
