Buying and Selling Appliances
All electrical appliances sold in New Zealand, including second-hand appliances, must be electrically safe. A way of demonstrating this is to have them tested to Australian and New Zealand Electrical Safety standards.
Buying New Appliances
New appliances are more likely to have the latest safety features. Check that all the safety features work and that the appliance has the right plug and voltage for New Zealand.
Repairs of Electrical Appliances
Always get your appliance repaired by a qualified person. Ask for an appliance Electrical Safety Certificate when they have completed the work. This shows the appliance has been repaired to approved safety standards.
Maintenance of Electrical Appliances
Regularly check your appliances for broken parts and/or damaged cords. Turn off and unplug all electrical appliances first. Clean them with a dry cloth.
Buying or Selling Second-Hand Appliances
Before purchasing or selling any second-hand appliance, consumers should always check that is safe.
