New Zealand's Electrical and Electronical Product Mutual Recognition Agreements


New Zealand has a number of active MRAs with it's trading partners that allow Testing, certification and/or Approvals to meet NZ's "Mandatory Requirements" to be carried in the trading partner's territories.

In most cases the MRAs retain NZ's Standards but adopt the foreign accreditation processes based on ISO guidelines.

The MRAs also allow testing, certification and inspections to the partners requirements to be carried out in NZ. For more information see Information for Exporters. Some MRAs also include an obligation to keep up to date information available on the participant's Regulatory Systems.

New Zealand's MRAs also contain provisions for Regulatory

Co-operation including sharing of information on product surveillance and enforcement action.

NZ has Electrical and Electronic Product/Equipment (EEE) MRAs with:

New Zealand and Australia Regulators also have mutual Recognition systems in place that recognise each others Regulatory Approvals (see ERAC Recognition Arrangement).

NZ also has EEE MRAs under negotiation with:

  • The Peoples Republic of China and
  • The ASEAN community.

Australia is one of our largest trading partners and much electrical equipment is imported into New Zealand from Australia.
