Proposed Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations

In parallel with the amendments needed to implement the changes to the Act, the opportunity has been taken to also generally update the Regulations as they apply to installations and gas appliances.   The regulations implement a new third party certification regime for gas appliances.

The current Gas Regulations 1993 are proposed to be repealed and replaced with new Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations.

Given the technical nature of the proposed regulations an exposure draft of the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations has been released by the Associate Minister of Energy to members of the industry. A commentary to the proposed regulations has been prepared by Energy Safety to guide industry through the key aspects of the proposed regulations.

The exposure draft process provides an opportunity for members of the gas industry to comment on the technical nature of the regulations and to suggest improvements for their workability.

Any comments and suggestions on the regulations should be sent by 26 February 2010 to Energy Safety, Ministry of Economic Development, 33 Bowen Street, PO Box 1473, Wellington.
