Proposed LPG Safety Levy

[ Last Updated 22 June 2007 ]
Short Description This discussion paper proposed a levy on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sold in New Zealand for use as a non-automotive fuel.

ISBN: 0-478-26313-9

The proposed levy would replace Crown funding Energy Safety currently receives to carry out its LPG safety responsibilities under the Gas Act 1992, aligning the funding of LPG safety work with that of electricity and reticulated gas (currently funded from third party levies).

The discussion paper outlines four possible collection methods and seeks feedback on a preferred option. It also discusses options for funding safety activities relating to LPG contained in imported non-refillable canisters. The paper's preferred option is to fund these activities from the proposed general levy on LPG.
