[ Last Updated 25 May 2006 ]
Short Description
Here are the proposed changes to the Electrical Codes of Practice in New Zealand.
- ECP50: New Zealand Electrical Code of Practice for Work on Domestic Fittings and Electrical Appliances
- ECP 51: New Zealand Electrical Code of Practice for Electrical Wiring Work in Domestic Premises and on Caravans and Pleasure Vessels.
ECP 50 covers work on domestic fittings and electrical appliances. ECP 51 covers electrical wiring work in domestic installations and on caravans and pleasure vessels. These Codes have been rewritten and edited with the aim of making them more accessible to non technical people. Once finalised, the revisions will replace the original versions approved in 1993.
Apart from many editorial changes, the main differences from the 1993 version are the expansion to include requirements for:
ECP50
- Supply leads for caravans and pleasure vessels
- Repairing a blown fuse
- Testing fuses
- Replacing fuse carriers with plug in circuit breakers
- Procedures for connecting conductors of flexible cord
ECP51
- Testing and certification
- Residual current device(s) (RCDs)
- Main switchboard layout
- Damp situations
- Recessed luminaires and auxiliary equipment
- Wiring work on caravans and pleasure vessels
- Electrical safety checks
