Underground Cables
[ Last Updated 3 July 2007 ]
It looks good without overhead wires but - remember the wires are still there!
There are many obvious advantages to underground power cables, but they can still be dangerous when you excavate.
Always locate underground cables and services - such as water, gas and sewer - before digging. If you are not sure exactly where your supply cables are, before you start any excavations, check with your local electricity retailer who will quickly locate and mark the position of the cables.
DANGER: Never interfere with any electric power equipment, outdoor connection fuse-box or transformer cubicle.
When digging post holes, or driving stakes or standards, be careful: cables are not necessarily laid in a straight line and depths can vary in different situations. They are not designed to withstand a blow from a tool, or any other object.
If a cable becomes damaged or you suspect damage, contact your local electricity retailer immediately.
