Small Appliances
[ Last Updated 14 September 2006 ]
- Keep small appliances - such as toasters, kettles, irons, hairdryers, shavers and curling irons - unplugged when not in use.
- If an appliance accidentally falls into water, always make sure it is switched off and unplugged before coming into contact with the water or attempting to retrieve it from the water. Do not attempt to reuse the appliance until it has fully dried out and been checked by an electrician or other competent person. Care should be taken to prevent use by anyone else who is unaware that the appliance had been immersed in water, such as removing it from where it would normally be used and/or putting a warning notice on the appliance, until it's been checked and known to be safe.
- Never put any metal object, such as a knife, screwdriver, etc, into any appliances, like toasters, heaters or dryers, especially if still plugged into a socket-outlet.
