Energy Efficiency

[ Last Updated 19 August 2008 ]

The energy efficiency of CFLs is assessed by compliance with AS/NZS 4847.2 [Self-ballasted lamps for general lighting services Part 2: Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) requirements] - which is under development (currently published as an interim Standard).

Compliance with this Standard is expected to be mandatory from October 2009 and the sale, after this date, of any CFL not complying with the Standard will be an offence. Testing needs to confirm compliance with AS/NZS 4847.1 [Self-ballasted lamps for general lighting services Part 1: Test methods – Energy performance] - which is also an interim Standard at this stage.
