Standards and Codes of Practice
Detailed technical requirements for gas distribution, gas installations, gas quality, gas appliances, gas odourisation and gas measurement are contained in New Zealand Standards, available from the Standards New Zealand website.
New Zealand is working with Australia to develop joint performance-based Standards in all areas of activities of Energy Safety, including distribution systems, installations and gas appliances.
In addition to the Standards, the legislation provides for the development of Codes of Practice for all aspects which it covers. At present, the following three Codes of Practice have been developed:
NZGCP 03:1993: New Zealand Gas Code of Practice for the Odorisation of Gas

The purpose of regulatory requirements for gas odour is to ensure that persons are warned of the presence of escaping gas, well before gas concentrations in the atmosphere reach levels capable of causing fire or explosion.
NZGCP 02:1993: New Zealand Gas Code of Practice for the Maintenance and Safety of CNG Refuelling Stations

The purpose of this code is to address the matters associated with the maintenance and safety of CNG refuelling stations. It should be read in conjunction with the NZS 5425 series of codes.
NZGCP 01:1993: New Zealand Gas Code of Practice for the Inspection, Testing and Certification of Gasfitting Work Done Under Supervision

This Code of Practice sets out the various requirements associated with testing and certification of gasfitting work done under supervision. It must be read in conjunction with an appropriate installation standard or code of practice.
